About CAMZone.org

What is CAMZone.org?

CAMZone.org is an attempt to provide high level discussions about the CAD/CAM world with a strong emphasis on the Computer Aided Manufacturing side of the acronym.

CAMZone.org primary goal is to be a round table to discuss manufacturing technologies including, but not limited to, CAD, CAM, CAV (Computer Aided Verification), DNC and PLM/PDM.

What should I expect from CAMZone.org?

Well, that’s a tricky question. This blog was born to provide in-depth and focused discussions about CAM and manufacturing in general. For those that are mostly CAD users you may see something useful here now and then, but this place is really all about manufacturing!

In brief, CAMZone.org is an attempt to promote healthy conversation and unbiased opinions about CAM and related affairs.

What’s the difference between CAMZone.org and other CAD/CAM blogs?

Well, that’s another tricky question. The quick answer is: We are not different… well, maybe we will be a bit different.  It seems that right now we have a bazillion blogs about CAD/CAM, but their focus is mostly on CAD. This is understandable, as there are more analysts and press resources covering this segment of the CAx industry.

In general, you can expect more CAM and manufacturing content from CAMZone.orgAnd no advertising! :P

Who is behind CAMZone.org?

That would be Daniel Santos. He is a former machinist, currently employed as a CAM administrator. Despite his current position, he also loves the smell of coolant as much as he likes computers. He decided to start CAMZone.org to improve his language and cultural skills (He lives in São Paulo, Brazil), and to offer an option for online content to people making a living in manufacturing.

His goal is to find people with different backgrounds and opinions and get them to join the conversation, as he feels that this is the best way to learn something in this life…

Is the CAM industry awakening?

Well, well, well…

Long time since my last post uh… like you, I was starting to question if CAMZone was ever going to get a new post… This one came to my mind when I was at the bed already… then the light came and I said: Let´s do it before it´s gone…

It´s true that the inspiration for today´s post came from some events in the last two days, more precisely the new cool features Siemens PLM put on NX 8.5 – Let´s talk about them among other things… today´s post is more about the industry, with a few technical points… it´s about my perceptions about where the CAM tools are heading to…

Like I said earlier, from time to time the CAM user base demands a new milestone in CAM – It´s like those guys in the 80´s that used to say that verification was a luxury, just wireframe toolpath simulation was fine, and then some guys set a new milestone and the rest is history. Then in the middle of the 90´s machine simulation was eye candy stuff, and by the beginning of the 00´s new rules were stablished, and today, a vendor without machine simulation does not get a chair around the table anymore.
